Love is always worth the cost

Who has God called you to love? Or, in other words, who in your life are you finding it difficult to love?

Here at the Mission, we have the beautiful opportunity to walk with many who are deemed “hard to love.” Some of our guests have a tough time trusting others and believe that they are unlovable—many have been told this their entire life. No wonder they are in the positions they are in.

What can love do to help them? 1st Corinthians 13:4-7 tells us “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

Love is not always convenient. God showed us this love by sending us Jesus. Jesus counted this cost and said that you and I are worth it! It is so encouraging to see all of those that the Mission has helped since 1999. God has used the treasure of His people, our donors, to make this happen.

I know the cross was not convenient, but Jesus did not falter. He went willingly, giving us the full expression of His love for us. God’s love is enough for our guests as we see in Romans 5:8: “but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Many have yet to realize for themselves that it is His love that changes their hearts, changes their lives, not just for a day or a week or even a year, but for eternity. Thank you for joining us in showing love to our guests, showing them they are loveable and that God, their heavenly Father, loves them and will provide for them into eternity.

Blessings, and Happy Valentine’s Day. Bill Edwards Director
