Director’s Note

In John 5:6, Jesus asked the man, who “had been an invalid for 38 years,” a question: “Do you want to be healed?”

The goal of our outreach programs are not just to provide meals and showers, but dignity and services as well.

I find it intriguing that Jesus asked him that. Of course he wanted to be healed, he was at the pool where many “invalids” lie hoping for this outcome. But he had never been able to get himself into the pool. There was nothing he could do to heal himself of the afflictions he was truly suffering from.

We have several outreaches throughout the week, including meal distribution and mobile showers, that are designed to meet the needs of our homeless neighbors and community right where they are at—the edge of the healing pool. Many of them want healing however they struggle, and it’s only when they realize they cannot do it on their own power that they can receive true healing—just like the man laying there for 38 years.

We have been able to help hundreds of men through our men’s Life Recovery Program over the last 20 years and now we are able to offer this same program to women in the Victor Valley. Our 12-bed facility and team of women are ready to show them the love of Jesus.

Every outreach design is intended to bring the individual closer to the decision of wanting the help—or healing—that Jesus offered the man who had been at the pool of blessing for so long. Thank you for partnering with us to help those neighbors experience Jesus’ love, mercy, and grace.

Everyone who comes to the Mission is just one step away from true life change, just like the man at the pool. God bless you.
