A Match Made in Heaven

Rescue Mission Alliance Victor Valley and Burning Bush Church have entered into a win-win partnership. One might even say it is a match made in Heaven. The joint effort, food service ministry, meets the needs of hundreds, if not thousands, in the high desert area.

Organizer and Burning Bush Minister, Daroyle Scott says, “We have gained members from this, and we have met people who thought they were really in need, but what they needed was Christ. I have made friends with the volunteers and we have made relationships with people in our community. We are happy to know people around town. We go to their events and they come to ours. The relationship has been tremendous; it has been a win-win for us all around.”

The ministry is the melding of two men’s vision, Pastor Denson and Mission Director, Bill Edwards. Pastor Denson approached Minister Scott and said, “I’ve talked to some people with Rescue Mission Alliance Victor Valley about feeding the hungry, and I want you to go down there and observe what they do and see if we can implement it within our church.”

“So, Bill had us come over to the place they were running it and I liked what I saw,” recalls Minister Scott. He continues, “The way it is run, I don’t have to worry about the storage problem which is my main problem. We don’t really have as much storage at our facility. So when the mission told me that they will pick up the food and bring it every week and all they need is the space to distribute it I said, ‘Great, let’s do it!’ So we started and initially not a whole lot of people came. Now the whole community comes.”

Staffed by the church’s Young at Heart group and mission volunteers, families in the community provide for an on as needed basis. Part of an even greater call to serve his church, Minister Scott says, “It is a pleasure to serve. It is an honor to serve and I am grateful to God for the opportunity. I love doing this.”
